University of Tennessee athletics director John Currie has been fired after a meeting with the head of the school. Currie, who had only been on the job since February, had overseen several botched attempts to hire a new Vol head coach. The failures had brought national ridicule on UT while other schools such as Mississippi State and Florida quietly and efficiently filled their head coaching openings.
The new Tennessee athletic director has yet to be named. Tennessee just completed its worst football season (4-8, 0-7 SEC) since joining the SEC in 1932 as a charter member.
